New Milford chiropractor Dr. Arthur Klein

Being a chiropractic doctor is the ideal profession for me…but I didn’t start out interested in a career in health care.”

As a child, I always loved opening things up to see how they worked. (maybe I should have been a surgeon!) Fortunately, it was usually things like TVs and toasters in my family’s home. If something was broken, I was the one to try to fix it before we called someone who actually knew what they were doing. (In retrospect, maybe it was a good thing that I didn’t go into surgery!) I liked electrical gadgets and electronic gizmos, so at age twelve, I installed a telephone in every room in the house. This was before cordless phones were around. I ran wires everywhere!

It was natural that in college I would begin studies to become an electrical engineer. I took courses in advanced calculus and quantum physics. It was only after studying electrical engineering that I realized I didn’t want to become an electrical engineer. I was introduced to the area of psychology and began working with people, something I enjoyed much more. My undergraduate degree is in psychology.

My “Eureka” Moment

One day I went along with my father to the chiropractor and had the chance to experience my first ever adjustment. I noticed an immediate improvement in my long-standing, cranky sinuses! This was my “Eureka” moment. I wasn’t that familiar with chiropractic health care, so I researched it further and liked what I found. It was in that office that I learned about the profession and what chiropractic care can offer. Chiropractic health care promotes body movement, nutrition, and with a properly running nerve system, your body can become and stay healthy. In undergraduate college, I took courses in biology, chemistry, and other health sciences which were required for admission to a chiropractic university for a professional degree.

Chiropractic health care fit very nicely with my then-forming views on the holistic approach to healing, including food, exercise and…health! I was fascinated with the amazing ways that our bodies know how to heal and repair without help. We just have to get out of the way and do healthy things (duh!) so our bodies can do what they are designed and programmed to do. In many ways, the nerve system in our bodies is very much like the electrical systems and wires in the various electronic devices we depend upon today. Looking back, I guess I never really left the field of electrical engineering!

So here I am, 33 years later, still helping people of all ages restore and maintain their health with Chiropractic Health Care. …the natural way!

A Chiropractic Education

After four years of undergraduate college at the City University of New York, I attended New York Chiropractic College for four more years of intensive study covering every aspect of the human body to become a Doctor of Chiropractic.

My studies included exhaustive courses in natural healing methods in addition to anatomy, physiology, neurology, neuro-anatomy, microbiology, nutrition, radiology and spinal anatomy and neurology, among many others.

We intern in a clinic setting with emphasis on spinal manipulation, natural care for all ages, pregnancy care, pediatric care, sports optimization, nutrition and other natural methods. Clinic exams, national boards and state boards must be successfully completed for licensure. As with all health professionals, I attend continuing education at post-graduate seminars and scientific conferences every year in areas such as sports, nutrition, pediatrics and diagnostic imaging.

I knew it would be a lot of hard work, but I enjoyed studying the depth and detail of the amazing ‘inner workings’ of the human body and am grateful for the thoroughness of the courses at NYCC.

On a Personal Note…

My wife, Hillary, is our office manager and our resident Food Counselor. She is trained in cooking and preparing wholesome, healthy, delicious and nutritious foods to restore health. She meets with our patients and helps them pick, plan and prepare delicious foods for a healthier life.

Hillary and I have been married 24 years now and I thank God for providing such a wonderful and beautiful partner to me. Our daughter, Carly, earned her Black Belt in karate. She was home schooled through eighth grade, attended our local high school, and is now in graduate school majoring in physics. We love traveling together and exploring new places, cultures and foods. We are all avid readers!

My Health Habits

Personally, I have my spinal structure checked and, if necessary, adjusted each and every week…as do Hillary and Carly. I have been checking and adjusting Carly’s spine since she was two days old.

We recognize the significance of motion and its relationship to our health. As such, we make it a priority to exercise several times a week, whether its running, bicycling, elliptical machine, weight training or yoga. We realize how much better we feel when we make exercise a priority.

Thanks to Hillary, we eat a primarily plant-based diet, rich with a wide variety of fresh juices, fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, legumes, nuts, seeds and dishes created with tantalizing flavors and spices. We also supplement to maintain optimal levels of vitamin D, omega 3 fatty acids, and anti-inflammatory nutrients such as curcumin, ginger and other plant-based antioxidants.
